Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The ex-president was convicted of orchestrating a military coup in September and handed more than 27 years in incarceration, but he continued under home detention pending court reviews.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information emerged.

This encompassed attempting to break his tracking device and a call for a demonstration that could "allow for a potential flight.

Court Filing Details Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the detention, the judge said intelligence from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the electronic ankle bracelet to guarantee victory in his flight.

This, it said, would be assisted by the disorder caused by the protest called by his child.

His child, Flávio, who works as a senator, called for a assembly of his backers near the former president's residence to take place on the weekend.

The senator wrote on social media on Friday: "Are you going to fight for your homeland, or see it all from your smartphone there on your couch? I call on you to battle with us."

He said the demonstration would be so backers could seek divine intervention for his well-being and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our land."
